Max Todd, age 88, of Lamar, passed away Saturday April 1, 2017, at his home in Lamar, Mo.

Max was born in Perry, OK to Samuel O. and Emma (Hise) Todd on February 21, 1929. The family moved to Kenoma when he was eight years old and Max attended Kenoma schools, Glendale schools, and, finally, Lamar High School.

After high school, he started work as a cutter for Big Smith in Lamar.    He married his sweetheart Dorothy (Haile) Todd on December 17, 1949 at First Baptist Church and they left Lamar in 1952 while serving his country as a Marine for two years during the Korean War.

Upon their return, Max worked at the Lawn Boy Factory until it moved and then took over a milk route, picking up milk from local farmers and delivering to PET in Jasper for several years. His lifelong passion was farming. He loved his farm and cows, and was blessed to have been able to enjoy farming until the very end.

Max lived life to the fullest, never knowing a stranger. He loved meeting new people and talking with everyone and was always there for his neighbors.  His family was his first priority. He loved them deeply and was always there to help them, even if it was something as small as having a piece of Wrigley gum for his grandchildren whenever they asked. One of his favorite things was to take his family boating and skiing on Stockton Lake during the summer. He is a member of First Baptist Church, Lamar.

Max leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; four children, Greg (Patti) Todd, Lamar, Denise (Rick) Williams, Lamar, Michael (Barb) Todd, Lamar and Beth (Marty) Nagel, Rogers, Arkansas; grandchildren Jasson (Ashley) Todd, Springfield, Garon (Lindsay)Todd, Springfield, Holly(Brian) Ford, Columbia, Joni (Matt) Splett, Gainesville, Florida, Kelly Williams, Rogers, Arkansas, David (Ariel) Gerths, Wichita, Kansas, Haley Nagel, Kansas City, Missouri and Derek Nagel, Springfield, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Caroline Ford, Owen Ford, Grayden Splett, Soren Todd, Anders Todd, and Aryana Gerths; a sister, Mary Ann (Eugene) Shaul, Ravenna, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hugh and I miss watching Max feed his cows and calves range cubes each morning. The cows recognized the sound of Max's pickup long before it was visible to the eye and immediately gathered near where they received their treat each morning. We feel honored to have know this gentle man who took such excellent care of his animals and property.

We have had the distinct honor and high privilege to work with and for Max for years on his cattle here at Lamar Animal Clinic and on his farms and will miss him deeply. He was a great man in all ways.
