Orville William “Pooch” Onstott, age 81, of Lamar, passed away Saturday evening, December 3, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital.

Pooch was born March 3, 1935, in Jasper County, Missouri, first of the two sons of William and Ruby (Griffitt) Onstott.  On June 18, 1953, at Carthage, Missouri, Orville married Evelyn Nally and they made their home and raised their three children in Lamar.  He worked for Thorpe Manufacturing for many years, delivered propane for Sun Oil Company, and ran an asphalt paver for Leo Wilhelm’s Asphalt Company as well as Onstott Trucking.  Many will remember Pooch from the fellowship enjoyed during the ten years he operated Onstott’s Tavern on Tenth Street.  He took great pleasure in mowing his yard and sharing the abundance of big gardens.  An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Pooch never missed a broadcast, managing to catch several baseball games at once on the radio and television, all while reading a favorite western novel.  He looked forward to Saturday morning card games and enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Evelyn, of the home; his children, Debra (Max) Walters, Jerry (Georgia) Onstott, and Kathy Carter, all of Lamar; a brother-in-law, Gary (Jeannie) Nally, Seneca, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Sharon (Max) Prine, Lamar; seven grandchildren, Jerica (Jeremiah) Rush, Jessica (Josh) Manko, Keb (Amanda) Walters, Willie Carter, Ben Carter, Jerry Michael Onstott, and Sarah Tefertiller; and nine great-grandchildren.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gene Onstott; and a grandson, Kale Walters.

Honoring his wishes, Orville has been cremated.  Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 6th at Daniel Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Orville was a good man but his son Jerry is a woman beating piece of garbage! Sarah is not a grandchild because that would mean that Jerry is her dad and that isn’t the case! He isn’t a dad to any child! Just a sperm donor! He once beat his son’s mom so badly that she miscarried their baby! How dare you list Sarah Tefertiller as a grandchild! It will be a great day when Jerry Dean’s name is listed in the obituary section! He can rot in hell!

I spent many hours at the Onstott house when I was growing up. My parents were good friends and Deb and I had a lot of fun times. I thought of the folks as a extended family. I know Pouch will be missed by everyone. I can see his smile as if it were yesterday. God bless the family and be with them in their time of sorrow. Even though I am many miles away I feel you your pain Love you all Mila

Orville was a good man and a grandfather. I miss seeing him all the years he came to middle school to bring something to one of his grandchildren. May you find peace and comfort at this time of loss.
