Marjorie Mezel, age 92, of Lamar, died Tuesday June 8, 2010 at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin after a short illness.

Marjorie was born August 16, 1917 at Mulberry, KS to James and Helen Ann (Campbell) McCulloch.  She was a graduate of Mulberry High School.  As a young woman she had worked as a waitress in Excelsior Springs, MO, in clerical and accounting for a railroad company, and during WWII she worked at an airplane assembly plant in Oakland, CA.  On May 3, 1954, she married James William Mezel at Rock Island, IL. He preceded her in death, October 8, 1976.  Marjorie was a stay at home mom, raising her five children.  After raising her children she went to work as a waitress at the Travelers Hotel and then later as a waitress and hostess at the Blue Top Restaurant in Lamar.  She retired about twelve years ago, having spent about 23 years at the Blue Top.  She loved being outside, especially tending to her flower garden and watching birds.  She was baptized as a young girl and had most recently attended the Lamar Family Ministry Center.

Marjorie is survived by four sons; Carl Wiley, Jim and Sharon Mezel of Sparta, MO, David and Pattie Mezel of Lamar, Robert Mezel and his fiancé Becky Dunfield of Jasper; one daughter, Patty and Danny Hininger of Lamar; nine grandchildren, Margie, Elizabeth, Andrea, J.T, Jessica, Tyler, Zachary, Trever, and Jim; ten great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and a grandson Lewis Hininger, December 3, 2006.

She will be missed by her many friends and family members, but she was looking forward to being with her Lord.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Friday, June 11, 2010 at Daniel Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Rosebank Cemetery, Mulberry, KS.

Patty & Family,
My prayers are with you. I'll always remember Mrs. Mezel and the compassion she always showed me when we were children. May her light shine in heaven as bright as it was here on earth. May God be with you in this time of sorrow.
