     Hester Lee Pickle, age 90, of Pittsburg, formerly of Lamar, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.

 

     Hester was born May 3, 1920, at Summerfield, Oklahoma, to Elzie and Rosetta (Earls) Pickle.  Hester served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran.  He was a steel worker for Jones & Laughlin in Fairfax, Kansas for many years and had also worked at a tree nursery in Neosho, Missouri.  Many of his retirement years were spent in Ritchey, Liberal and Lamar, Missouri, moving to Pittsburg, Kansas in 2001 to be near family.  Hester was a faithful member of the Church of Christ his entire life.

 

     Hester was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie (Creamer) Pickle in 1988; his parents, Elzie & Rosetta; a son, Don Pickle; five brothers, Marvin, Gilbert, and Forrest Pickle, Bob and Ray McClung; two sisters, Thelma Owens and Lucille Turner; and a great-granddaughter, Natalie Pickle.

 

     Survivors include two sons, Bill Pickle of Arkansas, and Tom & wife Paula Pickle of North Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters and their husbands, Jean & Jerry Giddens, Parsons, Kansas, and Rozie & Kevin Mein, Pittsburg, Kansas; four brothers & their wives, Luke & Velma Pickle, Parkville, MO, Elzie Pickle, North Kansas City, Mark & Edith Pickle, Jay, Oklahoma, and George & Jewell Pickle, Bokoshe, OK; two sisters, Rosalee Shirley, Jay, OK, and Margaret Ellen & Howard Kilgore, Liberty, MO; a half-brother, Clifton McClung, Kansas City, MO; twelve grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

 

     Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home with Ken Hicks officiating. 

 

     A graveside committal service and military honors will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Summerfield Cemetery in Summerfield, Oklahoma.

 

     Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Daniel Funeral Home.

So sorry to hear about your loss. As the obit says, he is now with the Lord, and what a great place to be! May God comfort and strengthen you at this time, and wrap His loving arms around you. Praying for the family.

Uncle Hester was a very special man!
He was always fun to be with. He was a faithful brother to his brother Bob. (our Dad). No doubt he has joined his family members that have passed before him in heavenly bliss. We send our love and sympathy to his entire family.
