Beverly Mae Soma-Fry, age 80, of Lamar, passed away with her family at her side Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.

Beverly was born May 27, 1935 at the family home in Kiron, Iowa to the late Harry and Edith (Larson) Lindstrom.  After graduating from Kiron High School she married her soldier, Merrill Soma on August 25, 1954 at Columbus, Georgia.  They raised their five children and shared nearly 35 years before Merrill’s passing on June 7, 1988.  On June 2, 1990, at Lamar, Beverly married Emory Fry and he preceded her in death January 27, 1997.

A natural and gifted caregiver, Beverly earned a CNA certificate and worked in healthcare for many years.  She worked at Chastain’s Nursing Home before beginning a long career at Barton County Memorial Hospital.  After retiring, she blessed many lives as a private caregiver, allowing her clients to remain in their homes due to her excellent attention.  Her family, especially her grandchildren were her first priority and she always had time to make memories with them.  Beverly enjoyed playing the piano, sewing and crocheting.  Her family will forever cherish the gifts of quilts, baby blankets, dresses and christening gowns because of the love they represent.  Beverly was an animal lover who rescued many a stray and was especially fond of her latest cats, Charlie and Kitty Girl.

Survivors include two sons, Jim (Jenny) Soma, Lamar and Jeff Soma, Pasadena, Texas; three daughters, Jenice (Larry) Gaither and Jerri Soma of Lamar and Jackie Soma, Altamont, Kansas; two brothers Larry (Beth) Lindstrom, Girard, Kansas and Will (Arlene) Lindstrom, Nixa, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; her long-time companion, Jack Compton, Lamar; close friends, Delores Russell, Golden City, Missouri and Bev Gath, Pittsburg, Kansas; and a wonderful circle of friends.
