Charles Vernon Miller, age 78, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Spring River Christian Village, after a long illness.  He had previously been a resident at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, MO.

Charles was born January 16, 1936 in Lamar, MO to Charley Miller and Grace (Medlin) Miller.  He attended school in Lamar and on April 14, 1955 joined the United States Air Force to serve his country.  On November 2, 1957, he married Shirlee L. Shaul in Miami, OK and together they raised two children.

Charles and Shirlee attended the First Christian Church when they lived in Lamar and the Bedford Christian Church while living in Bedford, TX.  He retired from ABF Trucking in 1997 after 30 years of service.  He was a member of the Teamsters Union, loved camping, boating, and yard work. Charles just loved being outdoors.

Surviving are his wife Shirlee of nearly 56 years, son and his wife Brad & Diane Miller of Garland, TX; daughter and her husband, Beth and Vince Barcea of Watauga, TX; three grandchildren; Danica Gehman, Breana Bittick, and Meagan Miller; one great-grand son, Robert Charles Gehman; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, one sister, and two granddaughters; Lynette Miller and Ashley Standridge.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association, Make a Wish Foundation, or Missouri State Veterans Home in care of Daniel Funeral Home.

Shirlee and family. I was sorry to hear of Charles' passing. I have been out of town and learned about it this morning. We prayed for you and your family this morning in our worship services. Will continue to think of you in your loss. Allen Brintnall S.R.C.V.
