Robert Wayne Arnold, age 64, of Lamar, passed away Saturday evening, May 24, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Bob was born January 14, 1950, at Lamar, to Clarence, Jr. “Yippie” and Grace (Martin) Arnold.  After graduating from Lamar High School in 1968, he earned a BS in business from SMS in Springfield.  Bob was the Human Resource Specialist at Thorco Industries for 33 years.

On August 28, 1971, at Lamar, Bob married Donna Westbay and she survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Jennifer Joy “J.J.” (Steven) Shaw, Lamar, and Julie Kay (Justin) Maskus, Joplin; a son, Jonathan Robert (Elizabeth) Arnold, Puyallup, Washington; three grandsons, Noah, Blaine, and Trey Shaw, Lamar; and a brother, Steve (Deanna) Arnold, Waco, Missouri.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Yippie & Gracie, and a nephew, Gregory Scott Arnold.

A faithful member and tireless worker at Lamar United Methodist Church, Bob served on trustee and worship committees, was active in Methodist Men and Genesis Sunday school class, was a volunteer bus driver, and was the sound technician for every service or special event.  He took pride in his yard and was an avid gardener.  Bob enjoyed photography, music and computer games, and was a dedicated Royals and Chiefs fan.  His greatest pleasure came from time spent with family and the fellowship of many good friends.  Bob will be remembered with a smile for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29th at Lamar United Methodist Church with burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of a formal visitation, the family will welcome friends at the Arnold home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Lamar United Methodist Church to be used for sound equipment.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Bob was one of my best friends growing up in Lamar. As he was a few months younger than me, he tried to teach me how to drive a standard stick shift, using his family's old white pickup. I didn't do so well. Bob was simply a great guy with a sense of humor and duty, who served his God, family, neighbors and friends with humility. I'm glad he has such a loving family as his legacy. Peace be with you, now and always.

Steve and family - I just now read of Bob's passing. I'm so sorry. I remember Bob from the the "good old days" when you and I used to pal around- hunting, fishing, football, etc. Bob was such an unassuming individual, always doing the right thing. I see he led his whole life that way. A good and honorable man. Just as I would have expected.

Love you

Terry

Donna and Family... Here is a poem that I know Bob would like for you to read!!!

Don't cry for me today,
I wouldn't want it this way.
Be strong and smile,
for you will see me in a while.
I know you miss me,
but now in Heaven I will be.
Do not keep your sad face,
I am in a much better place.
Do not let your tears fall,
for I cannot wipe them all.
Yes, my life wasn't long.
But I'm begging you to be strong.
Live every moment as if it were your last,
I won't forget any memories that have passed.
Cherish life and love as I watch you from above.
As I remember all of the good things,
I come to see I have gotten my wings.
It is time to go and fly,
as your guardian angel I will try.
Don't cry for me today,
I'm on my way.
Soaring through the sky,
I watch all of you telling me goodbye.

With all my love to the Arnold Family
