     Russell Gail Onstott, age 91, of rural Lamar, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Medicalodge of Nevada where he had been a resident for the past two months.

     Russell was born April 18, 1921 in Barton County, one of the six children of Jesse and May (Trout) Onstott.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clayte, William, and Rod Onstott; two sisters, Lavon Allen and Lila Moore; and a great-grandson, Zeke Onstott.

     In 1941 Russell joined the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific during World War II.  He returned home in December of 1945 and married the love of his life, Doris Marie Morgan January 31, 1947.  They were a life-long farm family, making their home and raising their family in Barton County.  In addition to farming, Russell had worked at Lawn Boy for 11 years.  He was a member of Oakton United Methodist Church and Jasper V.F.W. Post 6415.  Russell enjoyed music and dancing, and any opportunity for fellowship with his many friends and neighbors.

     Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed & Brenda Onstott, two daughters and their husbands, Janis & John Bauer and Brenda & Mike Harvey, all of Lamar;  eight grandchildren,  Kristin (Grady) Huke, Rodney (Lacee) Onstott, T.J. (Jill) Onstott, Jennifer (Austin) Choate, Jeff Bauer, Johnna (Jose) Chirez, Brooke (Casey) Wiss, and Brant (Erin) Harvey; 10 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.

     Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8th at Daniel Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Garfield officiating.  Burial will be in Oakton Cemetery with military honors conducted by Jasper V.F.W. Post 6415.

     Memorial contributions are suggested to Kiley Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

I was surprised to hear Russell passed away. I send my condolences to you and your family. Remember our days teaching school. You taught my brothers and I taught your brothers and sister. May God help you in your sorrow.
